1991 Mercedes 560 SEC W126 Coupe
This was Thor's Mercedes, sitting non-opped on his driveway for a number of years. Cleaned, photographed and published the ad, and it sold within a few hours of posting.
This 560 SEC was built in August of 1991, and sold new at RAB Motors in San Rafael CA in May of 1992 and has only had two owners, both in here in the Bay Area. All service records from day one are present with the car. I purchased it from the first owner back in 2002, with 75,000 miles on the odometer, and in the last 19 years it has covered an additional 70,000 and now shows 145,000 miles.
560 SEC’s came with a host of standard features including an automatic transmission, sunroof, cruise control, power controlled heated leather seats, airbags, 5.6 Liter V8, ABS brakes, etc. The trim code shows code 494, indicating this was a California specific car.
Has been driven sparingly over the past five years, so much so that it’s been registered non-op since May of 2020, and it’s time for someone else to get it back on the road more frequently.
Paint is original, shines up and looks pretty decent from a distance, but the hood/roof/trunk shows slightly more sun wear than the sides. There are a few sap and bird caused blemishes, some chips and scratches, a small scrape on the front left corner of the bumper and a small ding above the driver’s side window. The passenger door has a minor parking lot door ding and shows some sun caused peeling around the belt line chrome strip. Glass is good with the exception of the lower rear corners of the rear window, where there’s some (common to these cars) degradation in the lamination of the defroster. Defroster still works however.
Runs and drives. Has a slightly rough idle when started cold that quickly smooths out with a little temperature. Air conditioning has a refrigerant leak and does not hold a charge. Driver’s side power window switch is faulty. Aftermarket stereo with Zapco amplifier, subwoofer and upgraded speakers.
